REACH Week 02
Summary of how it went.
The 2nd week at REACH has been very busy so here are some of the highlights:
Spiritual Warfare - 19 February
If I had to summarize it. Spiritual Warfare is Angels vs Demons, a realm we can not see but feel, conflict of spirits, calamities that are unexplainable by science.
There are various ways to handle it but the simplest way to start is by fasting and prayer. Casting out demons is a whole nother thing which I’m not going to talk about now because my knowledge around that is still little.
Dancing In The Rain
What is PME? Practical Mission Experience: we go out to places that need gospel shared. An exercise to get practical missionary experience. There are 4 domain ministries we can choose from.
Drugs - Mamelodi
Kids - Creche
Labourers - T-Junction
Students - Campus Tuks
Because of the heavy rain we ended up worshiping back at base instead. Only the campus ministry lot went. For the rest of us it was too dangerous like for the drug ministry group was the roads etc.
Oh, yeah, I signed up for Mamelodi which puts me quite out of my comfort zone. In a way I might be able to relate with my mother after doing this ministry when she also did drug ministry in her 20s.
During the worship in the morning it was drenching with rain and during our quiet time I had a feeling I had to take off my shoes. Alright, first step of obedience. God nudged at me and told me to go into the rain.
“God, why? I’ll go do that when another song comes on. Then I’ll know it’s You speaking to me.”
Well well well, the song just didn’t want to end so I gave in and went into the rain with my long sleeve clothes.
Looking up to the heavens and I started moving. Dancing in the rain before God.
After a while, another song come on. That's the moment I knew I was being obedient.
It felt like I got blessed in the rain. Baptised in the rain by the Heavens.
Discipleship - 20 February
I got to see my coach for the first session. We got to know each other a bit better and afterwards I realised, he is the right one to have as a mentor. Before then I was quite sceptical and had a preference but that was probably because of the unknown.
The evening at our prayer night I got very emotional.
How would you feel if your mentor washed your feet as a symbol of what Jesus did to declare His 12 people as His disciples. That is where my heart started to melt.
The Harden clay became softer.
During the worship evening, the remains of the stone on my heart got chipped away. I’ve never felt like this in a long time and cried in His presence.
God In The Lives Of Missionaries - 21 February
We had a missionary couple come to speak/give their devotions.
Grantly and Madeleine. The stories he told resonated with me. Talking about faith in a way that you do not regularly hear at all. How God provides finances to God provides a way to cover small hiccups.
Listening to him I started to crave for more crises because that is where miracles happen.
We like our comfort zone and autonomy which makes crises feel like total chaos. The amazing thing is God uses crises to do miracles, which means we should embrace those uncertain times and have faith. The world is trying to make us believe that we need autonomy which leads to less faith and belief cause we can look after ourselves, the world got our back.
The tangent of convenience and faith will have to be for another time.
Mens Meeting
This is just a fun one to mention. Us guys went to play laser tag the afternoon after our classes.
Testimony - 23 Feb
I had the privilege to share a testimony to a church this week. It felt quite confusing but when I asked others it seemed to have gotten through. What put me at ease is Jonah; God used Jonah as a messenger even when he didn’t put his full effort in the message.
It puts me at ease because I was His messenger at that moment. He got to use me to convey the message even when it didn’t feel like I had said everything I was planning to.
The night before I wrote down the conversation I had with God and what He said during that time still got through.
Closing Thoughts
God is working. Like, He is working a lot here and He won't stop. I'm looking forward to what He'll bring next in preparation, practical, and relationships.
Thank you for reading. I see you in the next one!
